Shinki Black Oil (Teacore)

THE LEATHER PROFILE

  • Leather Name: Shinki Hikaku Black Oil (Teacore)

  • Tannery/Origin: Shinki Hikaku (Japan)

  • Animal: Horsehide (Vegetable Tanned)

  • Weight: Heavyweight (1.2mm - 1.3mm)

  • Temper: Stiff at first, breaks in to be pliable.

THE CHARACTER

  • First Feel: This is a heritage-weight leather. It feels substantial and armor-like when new. It will require a dedicated break-in period of 3-6 months to fully mold to your body.

  • Finish: High-gloss oil finish that highlights the natural grain texture.

  • Sound: Has the distinctive "creak" of authentic veg-tan horsehide.

THE AGING POTENTIAL
This is a Teacore leather. The hide is tanned a rich brown color first, then given a black oil topcoat. As you wear the jacket, the black finish will slowly wear away at high-friction areas (elbows, cuffs, zipper flap) to reveal the brown undertones beneath. This creates a high-contrast, vintage patina that is highly sought after by collectors.
