Himel Bros. x Freenote Cloth Heron A-1 - Black Goatskin

The Heron is named for both the majestic Canadian waterfowl, and the White Heron Castle in Japan, near where our proprietary Shinki horsehide is sourced.

  • It’s based on a deeply primitive early-1930s style, which demonstrates both the simplistic beauty of naïve tailoring, and the construction excesses of the 1930s. Characteristic of adventurers from Earhartt to Byrd, this Cossack style was adopted by the American military and designated the ‘A-1.’ Its descendants became universal—but the Heron is unique. Its shawl collar shape and organic, hand-drawn lines are specific Himel Bros. innovations. We stand by it—the Heron is the finest A-1 money can buy.

These limited-edition Heron jackets are lined with a custom plaid liner designed by Freenote Cloth made in Japan by Yoshiwa mills. Taking inspiration from their own archives, this particular design is a modified version of a plaid from the Freenote collection, updated with colors that have been used since the inception of the brand. The textile is a heavy 11 oz. yarn-dyed twill, finished with a light brushed effect. A classic corded flannel, in a melange of bright cheerful plaid patterns reminiscent of early 1940s work shirts. The fabric is beefy and built for both warmth and durability during the heyday of masculine and functional workshirts. It is a perfect marriage of brotherhood between Himel Bros. and Freenote Cloth combining the expertise of work shirts and leather craftsmanship.
