When we can’t find the perfect accessory, at Himel Bros., we have the luxury of designing one ourselves. Another luxury is our Rolodex of artisans at the forefront of their respective crafts. A well-worn card in that Rolodex is Ray Lansburg’s, whose work speaks for itself.
Here's a little story about these completely handmade key loops: Ray likes the design of the solid brass clips, but he doesn't like the springs. They're "dinky." So, when he makes these key loops for us, Ray treks down to a local machine shop, and buys up some tough little American-made springs. He cuts each spring to size in his shop, by hand, and re-springs each clip. It's absurdly time-consuming... and they're damn good little clips.
Currently preselling until November 1st, 2019. We expect shipping to take place in November.
We guard our stocks of Shinki Horsebutt jealously. We expended the majority of this extremely rare, Cordovan-tanned leather last year, making our King Mob Monkey Boot. A few details:
Leather is pit tanned using a fully vegetable-based process at Shinki Tannery in Himeji, Japan. Due to high connective tissue content, the leather is nonporous, extremely durable, and uniquely resistant to creasing. It contains the hard “shell,” underlayer, making these wallets nearly impossible to destroy.
The wallets are lined with pliable, vegetable-tanned goatskin, and their interior features are constructed from the famous English Bridle leather tanned by Wickett-Craig.
Our hardware is solid brass and made in Japan, and the wallets are handstitched with overdyed Japanese dark green thread.
